Listen and Purchase
"In This Place"
Recorded on my own equipment both in drummer Brian Oppel's basement as well as my own home studio, this album features primarily a trio format of acoustic guitar, upright bass (Clipper Anderson) and drums. Other musical flavors overdubbed include mandolin, electric/classical/resonophonic guitars and various tape and electronic bow effects. All selections are vocal tunes including 7 of my own as well as covers of songs by Lyle Lovett, Jonatha Brooke, Ben Harper and Robert Johnson. It is more sparse in production and it is lyrically my most personal.
"Part of the Picture"
"Part of the Picture" was the second album I released as a soloist. This is the most elaborate recording I've done in terms of production. Beautifully recorded primarily by Michael Blessing of Bozeman as well as Rick Kushell of Missoula, it features a number of talented Montana musicians including Jenn Adams, Tom Bensen, Beth Bramhall, Lawerence Duncan, Mike Freemole, Janet Haarvig, Cory Heydon, Susan Israel, Brian Kopper, Brian Oppel and Beth Youngblood. It is the most sonically elaborate as well in its use of cello, soprano sax, hammered dulcimer, violin, resonophonic guitar, and accordion among other instruments in addition to the foundation of acoustic guitar, bass and drums. The songs are mostly my own but this album also features covers of songs by John Gorka and Patty Larkin. There are also five acoustic guitar instrumentals.
"The Dance of Apollo"
Named after my most popular guitar instrumental (not to mention my dog), this album features 15 pieces, new versions of the 5 from my first album "This Year" (currently out of stock in cd), 5 reproduced versions of the ones from "Part of the Picture" and 5 brand new recordings.
“This Year” -
“This Year” is the first album I recorded after I decided to pursue music full time. It was inspired by a conversation I had with my Father just before he died, one in which he reminded me that you can’t always put off something until “next year.” It features five instrumental pieces including the original version of “The Dance of Apollo” as well as nine original songs. Stylistically, it’s pretty diverse with a wide range of tonal and emotional colors. One of the highlights is “Spinning Wheel” which was the first song by an independent artist put into rotation on a commercial radio station in Missoula and features a duet with Susan Gibson, who wrote the Dixie Chicks mega-hit “Wide Open Spaces.”
“Wow, great guitar sounds, amazing breadth and depth of material,
so well played and sung! Way to go!”
